CASEY
NEAL SELECTED FOR “RACIN’ FOR A LIVIN’ REALITY PROGRAM
Casey Neal,
the 2005 Red Bull Driver’s Search World Finalist has been
selected to be a contestant on the upcoming reality TV show
“Racin’ for a Livin’”. The 17-year-old Ohio High School Senior
is among the “Wildcard” section of drivers. Each contestant
must score enough on-line votes to assure continuation in the
selection process. Then the real competition begins in front of TV cameras as
drivers compete against one another for a fully sponsored ride
in NASCAR’s Busch Series.
“I’m
excited about the possibilities,” said Neal. “So far, I have
focused my energies on open wheel racing, but with sponsorship
in Open Wheel Racing virtually impossible to find, I welcome a chance
to expand my experience by competing in stock cars. I believe
there are only two Road Racers in the competition, Ferrari
driver Costa Bertuzzi from Italy and myself.
It will be tough for us to make that transition to just going left,
but I am ready am for it. I just want to race.“
Neal
recently experienced his first foray into stock car racing by
testing a Legends car where he quickly found himself comfortable
and was lapping at speeds very close to lap record pace after
only one afternoon of testing. The second day of testing
brought even better results with Casey leaving the track with a
.5 second gap over the nearest competitor. With this kind of result in his very
first look at Legends Cars, Neal has been turning heads among
the stock car arena and has been in discussions with several
teams about competing in select stock car events during 2006.
“I want to
continue my efforts to build my career toward Champ Car and open
wheel, but with this opportunity, I want to give these stock
cars 110% effort. If I can be successful in ‘Racin’ for a Livin’
and the NASCAR arena,
I feel that it will help all aspects of my career in the
future. It is really good experience and I will learn a lot
about being a racing driver in the stock car arena. I’ve really
enjoyed it so far and hopefully I will be one of the drivers
selected to continue after the end of the on-line voting process
on July 31. “
Neal drove
in the opening round of the Star Mazda Series at Sebring earlier
this year and is currently negotiating to compete in further
select events during the final races of the season either in
Star Mazda or even Champ Car Atlantic. “I think that I will be
able to race a few races before the end of the year. Hopefully,
with some good results in both my racing as well as my efforts
with ‘Racin’ for a Livin’, I will get some good momentum moving
forward toward 2007. I am really looking forward to it.”
